The company history of the family-run business Johannes Lühders KG.
In 1909 my grandfather started with a grocery store in Hamburg-Wandsbek. The assortment covered specialities like dried figs, dates, bananas and plums which he sold successful to many delicatessen stores. The quality of his products got around and Lühders became famous.
Because the premises were too small to handle the increasing demand, he relocated his business close to Hamburg’s central market in 1920. The product range was enhanced with ginger and candied fruits. Due to the quality the products were requested all over Germany.
To extend his sales with candies and fruit preserves my grandfather purchased a jam factory in Hamburg-Hamm and after extensive renovations the entire production and packaging also moved to Hamburg-Hamm in 1923.
My father Johann-Hinrich Lühders inherited the management of the company in 1958. He implemented modern production technology – such as an automatic casting machine for jelly and fondant products – and assured herewith the company’s continuance.
Since January 1998, I manage the company in the third generation. We began to sell our traditional confectionary to retail stores and started export business. Enormous growth and the need to optimize the technical workflow made it necessary to build up a totally new building in Stelle in April 2000.
Permanent modernisation and our extensive experience acquired throughout many years, guarantees that we satisfy highest quality demand now and in the future. By new factory extension we can douple our production capacity in 2015.

We are now one of the leading manufacturers of ginger specialities, soft candies, jellies, fruit gums and fondant articles.
We commit to permanent self-control and constant improvement of all divisions, to assure the manufacturing expertise, which was built up over years. A constant high class quality and highest product safety of our finished goods are guaranteed and approved by regularly independent external monitoring and supervision.
We consider it our duty to handle raw materials with care and respect in order to conserve valuable environmental resources. Concerning packaging materials, our principle is “avoid before minimizing before utilising”, without sacrificing the quality of our finished products.
Awards: We also subject our entire organization to regular external audits and checks. The company quality management system including the HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points) concept and regular certifications of the IFS (International Food Standard) are worth mentioning.

The result can be shown! For the elenventh time we are successfully certified by IFS (version 6).
About IFS (International Featuered Standard Food): The International Featured Standard IFS Food is a European standard which was especially developed for the food industry, which delievers private label products to trading concerns. Since 2003 it controls and certifies systems to guarantee food safety as well as the quality and conformity of food production. It is based on the established quality management norm ISO 9001:2000 and furthermore includes the principles of GMP and HACCP.
